Not spontaneous but supporting combustion; combustion and explosion occur when it is mixed with other flammable gases in the sunlight. Tending to react with most of the elements or compounds. Highly toxic. A strong oxidant.

Production methods
|
High pressure process: Chlorine pressure 1.4 ~ 1.6MPa (gauge pressure), liquefaction temperature 30°C ~ 50°C. Moderate pressure process: Chlorine pressure 0.2 ~ 0.4MPa (gauge pressure). Low pressure process: Chlorine pressure 0.15MPa or so (gauge pressure), liquefaction temperature -30°C or so.
